Snow fell on Saturday and Sunday morning and more snowfall is expected across parts of South Africa and Lesotho through Sunday and into Tuesday, with low temperatures and significant rainfall possible in a number of areas.

Anything from light to heavier snowfall is currently indicated in the data for Lesotho as well as a number of South African provinces.

The South African Weather Service has issued a disruptive snowfall warning for the high lying areas in the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, Underberg and and Van Reenen's Pass (on the N3) in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.

At this point snow is still possible for the Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho, with a very slight possibility for Gauteng.

Areas that have or may get snow on the peaks or high ground include Uniondale, Nieu-Bethesda, Middelburg, Graaff-Reinet, Cradock, Hogsback, Elliot, Barkly East, Rhodes, Matatiele, Swartberg (KZN), Underberg, and Kokstad.

Snow is also indicated around areas up north such as Bethlehem, Harrismith, Van Reenen, Newcastle, Volksrust and Piet Retief.

Snowfall is not unusual for this time of year.

Photographs of the snowfall this week are available HERE.

The map indicates where SnowReportSA is seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast.
