MONDAY WEATHER: Warnings for severe thunderstorms in four provinces – up to LEVEL 6

Weather conditions are expected to improve from Tuesday afternoon, with isolated showers and thundershowers still possible over the eastern parts of South Africa.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 6 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in flooding of settlements and roads, strong gusty wind and hail causing damages to structures, travel disruptions and municipal service outages incidents over the northern and eastern half of the Free State.

B. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in localised damages to structures, falling trees and local fire incidents due to excessive lightning over southern parts of Gauteng, the Highveld of Mpumalanga, the southern and central parts of the North West, the northern vast parts of the Free State and in places in the extreme north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

GAUTENG
Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers.

MPUMALANGA
Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with scattered showers and thundershowers.

LIMPOPO
Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south and central.

NORTH-WEST
Cloudy, windy and cool with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the extreme south-east.

THE FREE STATE
Cloudy, windy and cold to cool with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the north-western parts.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Fine in the west with morning fog along the coast otherwise partly cloudy to cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east where it will be windy. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly becoming variable from the afternoon.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy over the interior at first otherwise fine to warm. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly becoming light and variable from the afternoon.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool, but warm in a few placed over the interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with morning rain with chances of showers and rain over the escarpment in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly

KWAZULU-NATAL
Cloudy and cold to cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the south-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly north of Durban, otherwise light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh in the afternoon.
