Two cold fronts and a cut-off low bringing rain, big waves and strong winds from Monday

A cold front is expected to make landfall over the south-western parts of the Western Cape on Monday morning with a cut-off low further south-west of the country.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Monday:

A. level 1 warning for damaging waves resulting in heavy south-westerly swell of 4m to 5m and a period of 15s between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas from Monday evening, spreading to Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay from Tuesday morning, while reaching 5.5m south of Saldanha Bay.

B. level 1 warning for damaging interior winds resulting in strong northerly to north-westerly winds (40-50 km/h, gusting 70-90 km/h) over the southern interior of Namakwa and over the Central Karoo district from the morning into the evening and leading to localised damage to informal settlements, risk of runaway fires, as well as localised problems for high sided vehicles on prone routes, over the central parts of the Northern Cape, and the Central Karoo in the Western Cape.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Central Karoo District in the Western Cape, !Khe and Siyathemba local municipalities in the Northern Cape, as well as the following local municipalities of the Eastern Cape: Dr Beyers Naude, Blue Crane and Raymond Mhlaba, Amahlathi, Intsika Yethu, Great Kei and Mnquma.

1. GAUTENG
Fine and cool.
The expected UVB sunburn index: High

2. MPUMALANGA
Fine and cool, but warm in places in the Lowveld.

3. LIMPOPO
Fine and cool to warm.

4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE
Fine, windy and cool.

5. FREE STATE
Fine, windy and cool.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Fine, windy and cool to warm but partly cloudy to cloudy in the west with a chance of rain and showers in places along the coast and adjacent interior from the evening. The wind along the coast will be fresh northerly to north-easterly, becoming moderate from the evening.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Fine over the north-eastern interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain but scattered to widespread over the western parts. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-westerly to westerly, becoming moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly along the south coast from the evening.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine, windy and warm, becoming partly cloudy along the coast and adjacent interior from late afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly, becoming light westerly by evening.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and warm, but cool in places in the north. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly, becoming north-easterly in the evening.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Fine and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-easterly, reaching fresh to strong along the north coast.
