Snow has fallen already and more is possible through Wednesday and into Thursday this week. Snow, sleet, or a mix of snow and rain is currently indicated across all provinces including Gauteng and parts of Johannesburg and Pretoria. In most areas snow should fall on the high-ground and hills or mountains in the areas marked on the map, but in some it will be low-level. A number of the Western Cape peaks have or may have already received a dusting of snowfall, including around Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson, and Ceres from late on Monday and through Tuesday. Snow did fall in this region as per the forecast. Light snowfall is now also indicated for the high lying areas around Beaufort West and Murraysburg. There is a chance of light snowfall of flurries in parts of the Northern Cape high-ground, around Sutherland, Calvinia, Loxton, De Aar, Noupoort and other areas on the map. There is a much higher probability of snowfall on the high-ground in the region of Postmasburg and Kuruman from Tuesday and into Wednesday, as per the map. Light snowfall is also indicated for the high-ground in parts of the Eastern Cape from late Tuesday night and through Wednesday, including around Seymour, Graaff-Reinet, Nieu-Bethesda, Middelburg, Cradock, Middelburg, Barkly East, Lady Grey and Rhodes on Tuesday and into Wednesday. There is a chance snowfall in the Free State on Wednesday in the high-lying regions around Reddersburg, Trompsburg, Thaba Phatswa, Tweespruit, Dewetsdorp, Wepener, Smithfield, Brandfort, Welkom, Henneman, Brandfort, Clocolan, Ficksburg, Fouriesburg, Clarens, Bethlehem, Theunissen, Senekal, Winburg, Paul Roux, Kroonstad, Steynsrus, Vredefort, Deneysville, Parys, Petrus Steyn, Reitz, Memel and a few other areas marked on the map. North West is again on the radar for some light snowfall on Wednesday, and with a slightly higher probability now in the high-lying areas around Schweizer-Reneke and a few spots marked on the map. There is also a chance of light snowfall, sleet or rain and snow in Gauteng from late on Wednesday evening and early on Thursday, with slightly more snowfall indicated for the west in the region of Krugersdorp / Roodepoort / Randburg. The higher ground in Lesotho is indicated for snowfall on Wednesday and early Thursday, including on Sani Pass and at Afriski (up to 20cm). Anyone planning to hike or camp in the Drakensberg from Wednesday this week should keep an eye on our forecast updates. A lot of snowfall is indicated in the region of the Sentinel hike to the top of Tugela Falls and if you are camping there you should make sure you're always well prepared. Up to 20cm of snow is indicated in the high lying areas in purple on the map. Snow fell in Namibia, on the region of Aus as per yesterday's forecast. Snowfall is indicated in the Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal and is now looking like it may fall a bit lower down again. Some snowfall is indicated on the high ground north of Bela-Bela in Limpopo on Thursday. The light possible snow indicated for Mpumalanga is really just across the border from Gauteng, as per the map, and is really a low probability.
