MONDAY WEATHER: Very cold in the south with warnings for damaging wind and waves

Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the southern parts of the Namakwa district in the Northern Cape, the Cape Winelands, Central and Little Karoo in the Western Cape, as well as the western high-lying areas in the Eastern Cape.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for damaging waves A. yellow level 2 warning damaging waves leading to localised disruptions to harbours/ports/beach activities and difficulty in navigation of small vessels with risk of taking water and capsizing between Cape Columbine and Port Edward.

B. level 2 warning for damaging wind leading to localised disruptions to harbours/ports/beach activities and difficulty in navigation of small vessels with risk of taking water and capsizing between Cape Agulhas and Port Edward.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Very cold in places in the south, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain in the western parts in the early morning, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to southeasterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Very cold in places over the central parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cold with isolated showers and rain, mainly in the morning, but cloudy along the south coast where it will clear by the evening. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong westerly to southwesterly, moderating whilst becoming southerly to south-easterly along the west coast by late morning.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cold with isolated showers and rain but scattered along the coast. Snowfalls are possible over high lying areas around Joubertina. The wind along the coast will be strong south-westerly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool, but cold in places in the north, becoming cloudy south of escarpment with isolated showers and rain. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy to cloudy in the afternoon with isolated evening showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior, including the south-western parts. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly south of Mtunzini, but moderate northerly to north-easterly in the north. It will become moderate to fresh south-westerly reaching strong at times from the south in the afternoon, reaching Kosi Bay towards evening.
