Damaging wind and wave warnings continue on Wednesday with cold daytime temperatures until Saturday

A cold front is expected to slip south of the country by Wednesday morning, introducing cold to very cold daytime temperatures of 10°C and below in places over the interior of the Western Cape and the Namakwa district (Northern Cape). As another cold front moves south of the country by Thursday evening, the very cold daytime temperatures are expected to persist through Saturday.

Fine and cold to cool from Thursday, according to the SA Weather Service. It will be partly cloudy with light rain and showers in the east and south-west on Thursday, persisting in the south-west on Friday where it will be very cold.

Warnings from the SA Weather for Wednesday:

A. level 2 warning for damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation of small vessels, small vessels taking on water and localised disruption to beachfront activities, between Saldanha Bay and East London.

B. level 1 warning for damaging winds resulting in small vessels having difficulty in navigation, taking on water and dragging anchor, between Cape Point and East London.

Regional forecasts from SAWS for Wednesday:

1. GAUTENG
Fine and cool.

2. MPUMALANGA
Fine and cool to cold, but warm in the Lowveld.

3. LIMPOPO
Morning fog in the south-west, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE
Fine and cool.

5. FREE STATE
Morning fog in places in the west, otherwise fine and cool to cold. It will be windy in the extreme south-east.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy in the extreme west, otherwise fine and cool to cold, but very cold in the southern high-ground. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly becoming moderate south-westerly to southerly in the afternoon.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and rain, except in the north-east where it will be partly cloudy. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly north of Cape Columbine, otherwise moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly, but strong in the morning.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy in places along the coast with isolated showers and rain, west of Port Elizabeth, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, but fine in the north-east where morning frost is expected. The wind along the coast will be strong to gale force south-westerly.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and cold with morning frost in places in the north. It will be partly cloudy along the coast. The wind along the coast will be strong south-westerly.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain in the east. It will be warm in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.
