WEDNESDAY WEATHER: Very cold with more snow and warnings for damaging wind & waves

Partly cloudy in the west on Wednesday except cloudy, windy and cold to very cold with isolated showers and rain over the central and eastern parts but scattered along the east coast and adjacent interior.

From Thursday it should be fine and warm in places in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain in the extreme east but drizzle along the north-eastern escarpment.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for damaging interior winds leading to localised damage to temporary structures and localised reduced visibility due to dust storms over the Northern parts of the West Coast District, and the Witzenberg Municipality in the Western Cape, as well as in places over the Namakwa District in the Northern Cape except the north-eastern parts of Khai-Ma municipality until Thursday evening.

B. level 1 warning for damaging wind and waves leading localised disruptions to beachfront activities, localised disruption of small harbours/ports and difficulty in navigation of small boats/vessels between Table Bay and Port Alfred.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Khai-Ma, Nama-Khoi and Kamiesberg local municipalities in the Northern Cape, as well as Matzikama and Bergrivier municipalities in the Western Cape.

GAUTENG
Cloudy and cold with light isolated showers and rain over the southern parts at first.

MPUMALANGA
Cloudy and cold with isolated showers and rain, except in the extreme north-west. It will be very cold in places in the south.

LIMPOPO
Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain in the east.

NORTH WEST
Cloudy, windy and cold to cool, with isolated showers and rain in the east.

THE FREE STATE
Possible morning light snow in the extreme east, otherwise cloudy, windy and cold to cool, with isolated showers and rain in the east.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Fine over the extreme western parts where it will be warm in places, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and cool to cold but cloudy in the east. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly to north-easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Fine over the southern and western parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool but warm over the north-western parts. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly but strong to near gale north-easterly along the south-coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy over the interior at first, otherwise partly cloudy and cold. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh easterly by the afternoon.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Possible light snowfalls in places over the north-eastern high ground at first, otherwise cloudy and cold to very cold with isolated showers and rain, but scattered in the east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Cloudy and cold to very cold with isolated showers and rain but scattered in the east. Light snowfalls are possible in places over the north-western high ground in the morning. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly but strong in the north.
