Widespread low-level snowfall possible across Lesotho and South Africa – including Gauteng

Widespread snowfall is possible in South Africa and Lesotho from Sunday until Tuesday with snow indicated for all South African provinces.

Snow Report Southern Africa has been watching the potential for a widespread and potentially low-level multi-day snow event.

This is very much an advance forecast though and will certainly change over the coming days.

At this point early data indicates the possibility for snowfall in Johannesburg and across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and even Limpopo as well as the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, the Northern Cape, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.

The N3 and a number of major roads are currently indicated to see anything from light to more significant snowfall, especially on Monday.

Should this forecast continue to look similar to this then there is potential for significant impacts on travel in a number of parts of South Africa.

A more detailed forecast will be posted closer to the time, and the expected depth of snow will be marked on the map.
