Widespread severe thunderstorms, wind, hail and possible flooding on Tuesday

Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the central & eastern areas, but will be widespread over Free State & KwaZulu-Natal.

Later in the week rain and showers will be confined to the eastern parts of the country, with cold to very cold conditions expected over the eastern escarpments late evening on Thursday into Friday, resulting in snow over high lying grounds of the Eastern Cape as well as KwaZulu-Natal.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service (SAWS):

A. yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, and large amounts of small hail leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads and bridges, damage to infrastructure and settlements are expected over KwaZulu Natal, northern parts of the Eastern Cape, southern parts of Gauteng, Free State, southern parts of the North West as well as the eastern parts of the Northern Cape on Tuesday.

Extremely high fire danger conditions expected over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the western Bushveld as well as the Limpopo Valley on Tuesday.

1. GAUTENG
Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the north. The expected UVB sunburn index: High

Pretoria
Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Minimum/Maximum: 17/28°C

Johannesburg
Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers.
Minimum/Maximum: 15/25°C

Vereeniging
Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers.

2. MPUMALANGA
Cloudy in the south and east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld. Morning fog is expected over the escarpment.

3. LIMPOPO
Partly cloudy in the south, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE
Cloudy, windy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south.

Mahikeng

5. FREE STATE

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be fine in the west. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy in the north-east, otherwise fine and cool but warm over the central and eastern interior, becoming cloudy along the south coast in the evening. Morning fog patches expected over the central and north-western parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly in the morning, otherwise southerly to south-westerly. The expected UVB sunburn index: High

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly.

Geberha

Morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the extreme south and north-east. It will be cold in places in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly in the south at first, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly. Durban
Cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers.
Wind: Moderate to fresh south-westerly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.

Wind: Light and variable, becoming light to moderate easterly to north-easterly reaching fresh at times.
