Updated snow forecast for South Africa, Lesotho and Namibia

Snow is expected across parts of South Africa and Lesotho this weekend, and light snow is possible in Namibia.

Snow from this forecast has already begun falling in the west of the country, and will move across the region in an easterly direction until Sunday.

At this point the data is indicating no more than 10cm in most places other than the peaks of the Western Cape, and low-level snow is expected to be light in these areas.

Up to 20cm of snow may fall on the peaks in the Western Cape, and the South African Weather Service have warned that disruptive snowfalls are expected over parts of the Northern and Western Cape on Friday night and into Saturday evening.

Mountain passes such as Gydo, Theronsberg, Bainskloof, Ouberg, Cederberg and Kabakkies are likely to be closed at some point due to snow.

The Nottingham Road high-ground is still possibly in the snow zone, but only just. If snow falls in the Midlands it is likely to be very light at this point, but with the snow in this area only expected from Sunday this may change.

Please note that areas marked on the map indicate where there is a possibility of snow falling or flurries, but this does not mean that it will happen in all of these areas.

Please note that this forecast may still change, and if so we will update accordingly.
