More snowfall across South Africa and Lesotho this week

Snow has fallen in Lesotho and the Drakensberg and more snowfall is possible across South Africa and Lesotho on Thursday.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for disruptive snow that could result in road-closures in parts of the Eastern Cape for Thursday.

The forecast data currently suggests the possibility of some snowfall that is reachable by ordinary vehicles in parts of the Eastern Cape, Free State and Lesotho on Wednesday or Thursday.

In the Free State light snow is possible on the high ground in areas such as Clarens, Fouriesburg and Bethlehem as marked on the map, and Maseru in Lesotho. More than 10cm of snow is possible for parts of Lesotho, as marked in purple on the map.

In the Eastern Cape light snowfall is possible on the high ground in areas such as Nieu Bethesda and more than 10cm of snow is possible on the high ground around Rhodes, Barkly East, Dordrecht and Molteno early on Thursday.

Very light snow is also possible at higher elavations in the Northern Cape, as per the map, but the chances of anything settling on the ground is low in these areas.

The map indicates where SnowReportSA is seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast.
