Widespread and disruptive snow on the way with Gauteng and Mpumalanga on the radar4 July 2023 [updated 9 July]By Staff Writer
Snow has fallen already and more disruptive low-level snowfall is possible across parts of South Africa and Lesotho between Friday and late Monday. Snowfall is currently indicated in the data for Lesotho as well as eight South African provinces and slightly over the border into eSwatini. Johannesburg and parts of Gauteng are still on the radar for possible very light snow or flurries and widespread snowfall is possible across the Mpumalanga high-ground. More detail including towns and the specific periods will be added to this rather complicated forecast through the day, so please keep checking back regularly. Snowfall is likely to be reachable by ordinary vehicles in quite a number of areas. The South African Weather Service has warned of disruptive snowfall that could result in major mountain passes closed and isolated loss of vulnerable livestock for Dr Beyers Naude (excluding Graaff-Reinet), Kou-Kamma, Amahlathi, Mhlontlo and Ntabankulu municipalities in the Eastern Cape, as well as the western parts of eThukela, uMgungundlovu and Harry Gwala districts in KZN on Sunday and Monday. The map indicates where SnowReportSA is seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast.
