Weather forecast for the weekend of the Comrades Marathon

Temperatures will decrease further from Friday over the central, eastern and southern parts of the country while slightly increasing in the west, according to SAWS. Very cold conditions are expected in places over the eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga on Saturday.

Some rain possible on Sunday in extreme north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

We have also posted an updated snow forecast that includes Friday night here.

Regional forecasts from SAWS for Sunday:

1. GAUTENG
Fine and cool. The expected UVB sunburn index: High.

2. MPUMALANGA
Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise fine and cold to cool but partly cloudy in the lowveld.

3. LIMPOPO
Fine and cool but partly cloudy in the Lowveld.

4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE
Fine and cold to cool.

5. FREE STATE
Fine and cold.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Morning fog patches over the southern parts where it will be cold in places, otherwise fine, windy and cool, but high-level clouds expected over the extreme north-western parts from the afternoon. It will be warm along the coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh east to south-easterly.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Fine and cold to cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly to easterly along the west and south-west coast, otherwise light north-easterly becoming light and variable. The expected UVB sunburn index: Moderate.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and cool. The wind along the coast will be Light north-westerly, becoming light south-easterly in the afternoon.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and cool. The wind along the coast will be Light northerly, but light south-easterly in the afternoon.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Partly cloudy with morning fog in places over the western interior, otherwise fine and cool to cold but partly cloudy in the north-east with isolated morning showers and rain along the extreme north coast. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to south-westerly in the extreme north at first, otherwise light to moderate north-westerly, becoming moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly late morning. The expected UVB sunburn index: High.
