Storm causes long list of road closures due to flood damage

The cut-off low has resulted in flooding and road-damage in the Western Cape. The following list of road closures was published by the Western Cape government at 2:00pm on Wednesday, 27 September 2023, as well as other sources. Take note that this information changes constantly and accurate updates are not always available till much later.

National Roads

As the N2 remains closed at Bot River, SANRAL recommends that when travelling from Cape Town to Swellendam on the N2, follow the R43 to Stanford (via Hermanus), then from Stanford on the R326 back to the N2 (approximately10 km west of Riviersonderend). Alternatively, from Cape Town to Swellendam via the N1 and the R60 via Worcester.
Overberg District Municipality

• Low water bridge across the Buffeljags River close to Swellendam (DR1326)
• Low water bridge in Slanghoek (DR1398)
• TR30/1 road between N2 and Villiersdorp (Dennehof Golf Course) mud and water across road.
• TR30/1 km30-31: Villiersdorp to N2
• TR30/2: Viliersdorp to Worcester
• Villiersdorp only route out MR279 to Grabouw
• TR28/1 Road between Botrivier and Arabella.
• MR279 Road between Grabouw and Villiersdorp: sand on road
• TR 29/2 Nagwag Bridge flooding first 5km between Bredasdorp and Arniston: water over road
• MR277 Caledon to Greyton water across the road in two places
• DR1254 Karwyderskraal near Botriver, tree and debris on road
• Swartvlei Road: alternative route also closed
• Arniston is completely cut off. Traveling on gravel roads not advised with no through-way via Prinskraal
