Showers, thundershowers and strong wind to start the week6 October 2024 [updated 7 October]By Staff Writer

Warnings from the SA Weather Service (SAWS): A. yellow level 1 warning for damaging winds leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas spreading to Plettenberg Bay in the evening. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Dawid Kruiper District Municipalities in the Northern Cape as well as the Lowvelds of both Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Regional forecasts from SAWS for Monday: 1. GAUTENG Fine in the morning the otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the extremely north. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme 2. MPUMALANGA Fine and hot to very hot in the Lowveld, otherwise partly cloudy and warm becoming cloudy in the south-east with light evening rain or drizzle. 3. LIMPOPO Morning mist in places along the escarpment, otherwise fine and hot but very hot to extremely hot in the Lowveld becoming partly cloudy in the south-east by the afternoon. 4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE Partly cloudy and warm to hot. 5. FREE STATE Partly cloudy and warm. 6. NORTHERN CAPE Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north west with isolated showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to south westerly becoming north westerly from the afternoon. 7. WESTERN CAPE Cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm but hot in places in the western parts with light rain along the south coast and adjacent interior in the morning. It will become fine in the western parts from the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate westerly to north-westerly along the west coast becoming moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly from the afternoon, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly reaching strong to gale along the south-west coast spreading to the south coast from the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very High 8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, but isolated showers and rain in the south. The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate southerly, becoming moderate to fresh easterly in the afternoon. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy in the north and east at first, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon but easterly in the south in the evening. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Morning fog patches over the north-eastern parts, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and rain except in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly in the north until morning, otherwise south-westerly to southerly.
