WEDNESDAY WEATHER: Very hot in the daytime except on the coast but cooler overnight

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over the extreme north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

Strong 40-70 km/h north-westerly to westerly winds, gusting 60-75 km/h are expected between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay on Tuesday, swinging to the westerly to south-westerly direction from the afternoon and continuing along the south coast on Wednesday morning. These winds are associated with 3-4m waves.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Wednesday:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms leading to heavy downpours with localized flooding of susceptible roads, settlements, low-lying bridges/areas and localized damage to infrastructure in places of north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, escarpment of Mpumalanga, as well as the central and Escarpment regions of Limpopo. These conditions will be accompanied by strong gusty winds, hail and excessive lightning.

B. level 1 warning for damaging coastal winds resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay.

Extremely high fire danger conditions in places over then central interior of the country.

Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

MPUMALANGA
Partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places in the Lowveld, with isolated showers and thundershowers can be expected but scattered along the escarpment.

LIMPOPO
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the central and over the escarpment.

NORTH-WEST
Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with isolated thundershowers in the north-east.

THE FREE STATE
Fine and warm to hot but partly cloudy in the east with isolated thundershowers.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Fine and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool with a 30% chance of rain and showers along the south coast and adjacent interior, otherwise fine and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with a 30% chance of rain in places along the coast, otherwise fine and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly, becoming moderate southerly late afternoon.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine in the north-west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with a 30% chance of rain and showers in the east. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly, becoming moderate southerly late afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Partly cloudy in the morning, otherwise cloudy and warm but hot in the extreme north-west. With isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-west. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly in the north at first , otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.
