Warnings from the SA Weather Service from Monday:

A. level 2 warning severe thunderstorms leading to localised damage to settlements and infrastructure, localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, minor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads and poor visibility, and large amounts of small hail/large hail over an open area, are expected in places over Gauteng, as well as the Highveld and escarpment areas of Mpumalanga. Rainfall accumulation of 15-20mm per hour and strong winds are expected in places.

B. level 2 warning damaging interior winds leading to damage of settlements and infrastructure, some transport routes and travel services affected by wind, risk of localised runaway fires and danger to life, are expected over the extreme eastern parts of the Free State, as well as the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

C. level 2 warning damaging waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea are expected between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay.

D. level 1 warning damaging waves resulting in localised disruption to harbours and/or ports with small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality, are expected along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and East London from the afternoon. A passing cold front is expected to result in strong to gale force westerly/south-westerly winds along the coast and these winds will enhance the sea state to 4.0 to 5.5m along the coast. The expected waves will be amplified by up to 2.1m around high tide from 2pm to 4pm.

E. level 1 warning damaging winds leading disruptions to beach front activities are expected between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the extreme northern-eastern parts of the Northern Cape as well as the extreme western parts of the North West.
