Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the central interior and the eastern parts of the country with severe thunderstorms possible over the southern and north eastern areas of the country, according to the SA Weather Service. From Friday SA Weather expects it to be partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the south-western interior. Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Thursday: A. yellow level 2 warning severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads and settlements as well as localised damage to infrastructure, are expected over Gauteng, extreme east of North West, Mpumalanga Highveld, and the southern parts of Limpopo. B. yellow level 1 warning severe thunderstorms in parts of the Eastern Cape, as per the map above (note the error in the map key). Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape, and Kai Garib Local Municipality in the Northern Cape. Regional forecasts from SAWS for Thursday: 1. GAUTENG Cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low 2. MPUMALANGA Morning fog in places on the Highveld, otherwise cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the west. It will become partly cloudy and hot in the Lowveld in the afternoon. 3. LIMPOPO Partly cloudy in the west at first, otherwise cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except for the north-eastern parts. It will become partly cloudy and hot in the Lowveld in the afternoon. 4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE Fine in the west at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme east where it will be cloudy. 5. FREE STATE Morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme west. 6.NORTHERN CAPE Cloudy at first along the coast and adjacent interior with fog patches over the south-western parts in the early morning, otherwise, fine and warm to hot but partly cloudy, windy and hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly, becoming fresh from the afternoon. 7. WESTERN CAPE Partly cloudy and cool to warm, but cloudy along the south coast at first, with morning fog patches over in the extreme south-east. It will be hot in places in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming fresh southerly in the west from the afternoon, but moderate south-easterly along the southern coastline in the evening. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme 8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy and warm along the coast, otherwise fine and hot to very hot over the interior, becoming partly in the north with isolated thunderstorms. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Fine and hot becoming partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms over the interior in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly, becoming light southerly in the afternoon. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Morning fog over the interior, otherwise fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west. The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.
