FRIDAY WEATHER: A thunderstorm warning for the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected to last until Friday over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Friday:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges as well as strong damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, and damage to infrastructure and settlements over the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape and south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal excluding the coastline.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the extreme north-eastern parts of Northern Cape.

Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the Lowveld.

THE FREE STATE
Partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered along the Lesotho boarder.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and hot to very hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the west and south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers in the east, otherwise isolated. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong east of St Francis at first.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly in the north at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Fine and hot to very hot becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in the west and south, otherwise isolated except in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly, becoming southerly to south-westerly south of Durban from late morning, spreading to Richards Bay by evening.
