Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the southern parts of the Namakwa District in the Northern Cape, the interior regions of Western Cape as well as in places in the Eastern Cape interior on Thursday. Some warnings from the SA Weather Service for Thursday: A. level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to temporary structures and localised power and communication interruptions in places over the northern interior of Eastern Cape. B. level 2 warning for damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea and small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas on Thursday morning, spreading to Plettenberg Bay and Alexander Bay in the afternoon. C. level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves resulting in localised disruptions to harbours/ports with small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing between Plettenberg Bay and Port Edward. D. level 1 warning for disruptive snow resulting in icing on roads and disruptions in mountain passes in the high-lying regions between Graaff-Reinet and Komani (Queenstown). Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places in the northern parts of KwaZulu Natal. Regional forecasts from the SA Weather Service for Thursday: 1. GAUTENG Fine and cool. The expected UVB sunburn index: High 2. MPUMALANGA Fine and cool to cold, but warm in the Lowveld. 3. LIMPOPO Fine and cool to warm. 4. NORTH WEST Fine, windy and cool. 5. FREE STATE Fine, windy and cold to cool becoming partly cloudy over the southern parts. 6. NORTHERN CAPE Cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain in the south and west but scattered in the south-west where it will be very cold in places. It will be windy over the central parts with light snowfall possible in the extreme southern parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly, becoming south to south-westerly. 7. WESTERN CAPE Cloudy, windy and cold with scattered to widespread showers and rain, while clearing from the north during the evening. Light snowfall is possible over the mountain peaks. The wind along the coast will be strong to near-gale force north-westerly along the south-west coast at first, otherwise fresh to strong westerly to south-westerly. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low 8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy becoming cloudy and cool to cold. Isolated showers and rain are expected from the afternoon, but scattered along the coast, with light snow on the coastal mountains and Sneeuberg. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly, reaching gale force in places in the afternoon. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Fine and warm, but cool over the high ground. It will become cloudy from the west with evening showers and snowfall over the Winterberg and Eastern Cape Drakensberg. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-westerly becoming fresh to strong south-westerly in the afternoon. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Fine and cool to warm. It will become cloudy in the south in the evening with isolated showers and rain in the extreme south. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.
