The heat wave for the Eastern Cape continues and thunderstorms more widespread on Monday29 December 2024 [updated 30 December]By Staff Writer

Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern areas on Monday, except in places along the coast of KwaZulu Natal according to the SA Weather Service (SAWS). A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the north-western parts of the Eastern Cape, lasting until Tuesday. Furthermore, extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the central parts of the Western Cape. On Tuesday mostly isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts of the country can be expected, with possible rain and showers along the south-west. Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Monday: A. yellow level 1 warning for winds and waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas from the afternoon. B. yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in damage to settlements, property and vehicles are expected over the central parts of the Eastern Cape. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the Western Cape except the coastal areas, the extreme north-western parts of the Eastern Cape as well as the central and western parts of the Northern Cape. Regional forecasts from SAWS for Monday: 1. GAUTENG Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index: Moderate 2. MPUMALANGA Cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the east. 3. LIMPOPO Cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-west. 4. NORTH WEST Partly cloudy and warm to hot, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme west. 5. FREE STATE Morning fog patches in the extreme east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east. 6. NORTHERN CAPE Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be light and variable at first, otherwise moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly. 7. WESTERN CAPE Fine in the north-west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and rain in the south-west in the evening. The wind along the coast will be light south-eastern along the south coast, otherwise fresh to strong north-westerly. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very High 8 . WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the east. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to south easterly. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with scattered afternoon showers thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Morning fog patches in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme west and northern parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.
