Heatwave continues on Sunday but a cold front arrives – snow on the cards next week2 November 2024 [updated 3 November]By Staff Writer

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, the Free State, and the northern and north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal until Monday but over the north-eastern interior of the Eastern Cape until Sunday, according to the SA Weather Service. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the central and south-eastern parts of South Africa as well as over the south-western parts where a cold front will make landfall on Sunday. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the southern and central parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday, and windy conditions are expected. Warnings from the SA Weather Service (SAWS): A yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms as per the map below was added on Sunday. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Central Karoo of the Western Cape, east and central parts of the Northern Cape, the western parts of the Free State, in places over the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Eastern and Central parts of the Free State, Limpopo, in places over Mpumalanga as well as western and central parts of KwaZulu Natal. Regional forecasts from SAWS for Sunday: 1. GAUTENG Fine in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot but extremely hot in the extreme north, it will become partly cloudy in the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme 2. MPUMALANGA Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-eastern parts. It will be extremely hot in the Lowveld. 3. LIMPOPO Fine in the north otherwise partly cloudy and very hot to extremely hot. 4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE Fine, windy and hot to very hot becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers in the west. 5. FREE STATE Fine, windy and hot to very hot becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers, except in the north-east. 6. NORTHERN CAPE Cloudy in the west and southern parts in the morning where it will be cool to warm, otherwise fine windy and hot to very hot with isolated showers in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly. 7. WESTERN CAPE Cloudy along the south-western and southern parts in the morning with mist over the south-west and extreme south-eastern parts. It will be fine and cool to warm over the eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly along the south-western parts in the morning otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly but strong at times from the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very High 8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy and hot with isolated thundershowers in the extreme north-east. It will be cloudy and warm along the coast with isolated showers in the extreme west coast in the evening. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Partly cloudy and warm with isolated thundershowers but scattered in the east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Morning fog patches in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot but extremely hot in places in the north. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected except in the north-east but scattered in the south.
