TUESDAY WEATHER: A severe thunderstorm warning affecting six provinces and cooler in places

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, and localised damage to settlements and infrastructure over North West, Gauteng, the Highveld of Mpumalanga, south-western Limpopo, northern Free State and the extreme north-eastern parts of Northern Cape.

GAUTENG
Cloudy and cold, but cool in the extreme north. Scattered showers and thundershowers is expected.

MPUMALANGA
Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the northern Lowveld.

LIMPOPO
Cloudy and cold with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-western and south central parts. It will be cool in places.

NORTH-WEST
Cloudy, windy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

THE FREE STATE
Cold in the east, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Fine and warm but partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy over the north-eastern parts in the morning, otherwise fine and cool to warm but hot over the west coast. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly along the south-coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-easterly but strong to near gale-force along the south-west coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy along the coast at first, otherwise fine and cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool south of the escarpment. It will become cloudy along the coast from late afternoon, with evening rain along the coast to the east of Kei River. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning and evening fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool. Isolated showers and rain are expected but scattered along the coast and in the extreme north. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly, becoming easterly to south-easterly in the afternoon.
