A cold front associated with an upper air trough, is expected to make landfall over the south-western parts of the Western Cape on Wednesday, according to the SA Weather Service (SAWS). As a result, strong to gale-force northerly to north-westerly winds (40-74 km/h, gusting at 60-95 km/h) can be expected along the south-west coast (A) from Wednesday into Thursday. The strong winds are also expected over the Western Cape and the southern interior of Namakwa District of Northern Cape on Wednesday (B) reaching 40-61 km/h with gusts of about 60-90 km/h. Warnings from the SAWS from Wednesday: A. level 2 warning damaging wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea, is expected between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas, until Thursday. B. level 1 warning damaging wind resulting in localised power and communication interruptions and localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes due to cross winds, is expected in places over the central and eastern interior of the Western Cape and the Dr Beyers Naude local municipality in the Eastern Cape. Warnings from the SAWS from Thursday: level 1 warning damaging waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea, is expected between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas on Thursday, spreading to Plettenberg Bay from Friday until Sunday. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Kareeberg local municipality of Northern Cape, Central and Little Karoo districts, and the Hassequa municipality in the Western Cape, as well as Dr Beyers Naude, Blue Crane Route and Inxuba Yethemba local municipalities in the Eastern Cape. Regional forecasts from SAWS for Wednesday: 1. GAUTENG Frost in places in the morning, otherwise fine and cool. The expected UVB sunburn index: Moderate 2. MPUMALANGA Cloudy with morning fog in places in the Highveld, otherwise fine and cool, but warm in the Lowveld. 3. LIMPOPO Morning fog patches in the central parts, otherwise fine and cool to warm but partly cloudy in the north and east with light rain and drizzle in the north-east in the morning. 4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE Fine and cool, with windy conditions in the extreme west. 5. FREE STATE Morning fog in the east, otherwise fine and cold to cool. It will be windy in the extreme west. 6. NORTHERN CAPE Cloudy along the coast with morning fog patches, otherwise fine and cool to warm. It will be windy in places in the central and southern parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly. 7. WESTERN CAPE Mostly cloudy and cool over the south-western parts, otherwise fine and warm. Isolated showers and rain is expected over the extreme south-western parts from the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly, but strong to near-gale force at times along the south-west coast. It will be south-westerly along the south coast during the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low 8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Morning fog in places in the south, otherwise fine and warm but cool in the extreme north. It will be windy in places over the interior. The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate northerly, becoming easterly in the afternoon. It will become moderate to fresh south-westerly west of Oyster Bay later in the afternoon, spreading to Algoa Bay in the evening and Port Alfred overnight. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Cloudy with morning fog in places in the south, otherwise fine and cool but warm in places in the south. It will be windy in places over the northern and western interior. The wind along the coast will be light northerly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Morning fog over the interior and rain along the north coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.
