SATURDAY WEATHER: Warnings for seven provinces include severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and damaging waves

Hot and humid weather can be expected in places along the Wild Coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape, but in many parts of the country it will be a much cooler weekend.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Saturday:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning, resulting in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements, are expected over the North West, southern parts of Gauteng, north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, southern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga, as well as the northern parts of the Free State.

B. level 1 warning for damaging winds leading to damage to settlements and temporary structures, are expected over the south-eastern parts of Northern Cape.

C. level 2 warning for damaging waves leading to localised damage to coastal infrastructure and difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas in the evening, spreading to Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay on Sunday morning.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Free State, Northern Cape, extreme south-western parts of North West as well as the northern parts of the Eastern Cape.

GAUTENG
Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered afternoon thundershowers, but isolated in the north.

MPUMALANGA
Cloudy over the Highveld at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except for the extreme east. It will be hot in places on the Lowveld.

LIMPOPO
Cloudy at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south, except for the extreme south-east. It will be hot in places on the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley.

NORTH-WEST
Partly cloudy to cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

THE FREE STATE
Fine in the south at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south, otherwise scattered.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Fine in the extreme west where it will be cool in places, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly during early morning, otherwise moderate easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Fine to partly cloudy and warm, becoming cloudy with isolated showers over the south-western parts from late afternoon. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly in the west by morning, otherwise fresh westerly to south-westerly.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with fog in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but windy and hot in the north with isolated thunderstorms. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly east of Algoa Bay in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong in places.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Morning fog patches in places, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the north where it will be windy. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly reaching fresh in places in the morning, otherwise moderae to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong from the afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning fog patches in places over the interior, otherwise fine to partly cloudy and warm to hot, but very hot in places in the north. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, reaching fresh in places in the afternoon.
