SUNDAY WEATHER: A warning for thunderstorms in six provinces and very hot in the Northern Cape

From Sunday it should be fine and hot to very hot in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts of the country from the afternoon.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Sunday:

A. level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms associated with heavy downpours leading to flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying areas resulting in closure of some bridges and roads, excessive lightning, strong damaging winds and large amounts of small hail over the northern part of Gauteng, vast parts of Mpumalanga, the southern and central parts of Limpopo and the north-west of KwaZulu-Natal as per the updated map above.

B. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms associated with heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying bridges/areas, excessive lightning and large amounts of small hail over North West, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, and parts of the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal as per the map.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Kai! Garib local municipality and Francis Baard district in the Northern Cape.

NORTH-WEST
Cloudy in the east in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme south-west.

Cloudy in the east in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east. No rain expected in the west.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in places in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly

THE WESTERN CAPE
Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, but very hot over the northern parts of the west coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with light rain along the coast in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with scattered showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated thundershowers in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning and evening fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly.
