SUNDAY WEATHER: Thunderstorms or rain over the central and eastern parts of the country with three warnings issued

Partly cloudy and cool conditions can be expected on Sunday with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms possible over the central and eastern parts of the country from the afternoon. It will be warm in places in the north.

From Monday it should be partly cloudy and cool, but it will be warm in places over the northern parts of South Africa with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms possible over the central and eastern parts of the country.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, and localised damage to settlements and infrastructure over KwaZulu-Natal except in the extreme southern parts as well as the eastern Highveld in Mpumalanga.

B. level 2 warning for damaging interior winds leading to localised damage to settlements, and some transport routes and travel services affected by winds over most parts of KwaZulu-Natal except in the south-western parts.

C. level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves leading to localised disruption of small harbours and/or a port, small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality, difficulty in navigation along the KwaZulu-Natal coast.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Ratlou and Mahikeng Local Municipalities in the North West, as well as the north and central parts in Gauteng.

GAUTENG
Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the southern parts. It will be hot in the extreme north.

MPUMALANGA
Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-east. It will be hot in the Lowveld.

LIMPOPO
Fine, becoming partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-eastern parts.

NORTH-WEST
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers over the extreme south-eastern parts. It will be windy over the eastern parts.

THE FREE STATE
Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the north-western parts. It will be windy over the eastern parts.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Cloudy in the morning along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with isolated showers except in the western parts, becoming partly cloudy in the west and central parts in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south to south-easterly but moderate to fresh south-westerly along the south coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and rain, but isolated in the northern parts. It will be cold in places. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and rain, but isolated along the escarpment and northern parts. The wind along the coast will be fresh south-westerly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be northerly to north-easterly in the northern parts until in the late morning, otherwise fresh to strong southerly to south-westerly.
