TUESDAY WEATHER: Thunderstorm warnings for six provinces and a heat wave indicated until Thursday

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places over Sarah Baartman, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi, Alfred Nzo, OR Tambo and Amathole District Municipalities in the Eastern Cape until Thursday and over most parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, as well as the southern parts of the North West until Friday.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Tuesday:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, and localised damage to infrastructure due to damaging winds expected over parts of North-West, the Free State, the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and much of Gauteng.

B. level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms over parts of the Eastern Cape, as per the updated map above.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over central and eastern parts of Northern Cape.

GAUTENG
Partly cloudy and hot but very hot in the south with afternoon isolated showers and thundershowers.

MPUMALANGA
Morning fog and drizzle along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld.

LIMPOPO
Morning drizzle along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south.

NORTH-WEST
Fine at first becoming partly cloudy and hot to very hot in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers.

THE FREE STATE
Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Morning fog along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the east, otherwise fine. The wind along the coast will be fresh southerly, becoming strong south-easterly from the afternoon.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Morning fog along the west coast, otherwise fine and hot over the interior but partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme north-eastern parts. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly in the north, otherwise fresh south-westerly.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and hot to very hot, but extremely hot in places with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, but strong north of East London from the afternoon. It will become moderate south-westerly south of East London.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning fog in places in the north and south-east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming light to moderate southerly to south-easterly in the south early morning.
