Wet, windy and cold to very cold conditions are expected over the south east of Northern Cape, Free State and the south of North West province and in places of the Eastern Cape interior. There is also a possibility of light snow along the Lesotho border and northern high grounds of the Eastern Cape. The public and small stock farmers are advised to provide proper shelter, dry bedding, and energy-rich feed to protect their animals against these conditions. From Wednesday it will be partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the north-eastern parts of the country. Warnings from the SAWS for Wednesday: A. level 2 warning resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea and localised disruptions to small harbours and ports, is expected between Alexander Bay and Kosi Bay. B. level 2 warning for disruptive snow resulting in icy roads and railway lines and isolated loss of vulnerable livestock and crops is expected in places over the northern high ground of the Eastern Cape. C. level 2 warning for damaging interior winds resulting in localised damage to settlements and localised power and communication interruptions are expected along the coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape and extreme eastern parts of the Free State. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places in Limpopo. Regional forecasts from SAWS for Wednesday: 1. GAUTENG Fine and cold. The expected UVB sunburn index: High 2. MPUMALANGA Partly cloudy at first, otherwise fine and cool but warm in places in the Lowveld. 3. LIMPOPO Partly cloudy at first, otherwise fine and cool to warm. 4. NORTH WEST PROVINCE Partly cloudy, windy and cold but fine in the west. 5. FREE STATE Partly cloudy, windy and cold with isolated showers and rain, except the extreme north-west. It will become fine by late afternoon. 6. NORTHERN CAPE Partly cloudy, windy and cold with isolated showers and rain, except in the north. It will be cloudy in the west. There will be light to moderate snowfall over the southern high ground. The wind along the coast will be light south-westerly. 7. WESTERN CAPE Cloudy and cold but cool in places along the south coast, with isolated showers and rain. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong westerly, but light north-westerly in the west. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low 8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Cloudy, windy and cold to cool with scattered showers and rain. Snowfalls are expected over the northern high ground, where it will be very cold. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong westerly, reaching gale force in places east of Oyster Bay. 9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Windy in places, otherwise cloudy and cold to very cold with scattered showers and rain. Snowfalls are expected over the high lying areas. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly, reaching gale force in places. 10. KWAZULU-NATAL Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain in the south. It will become fine by the late afternoon. The wind along the coast will be strong to gale force southerly to south-westerly.
