More heavy rain, flooding and another orange level 6 warning on Thursday

Scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers but isolated in places on Thursday, according to the SA Weather Service.

Significant rainfall amounts of up to 100mm are expected in places over the northern parts as well as along the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday which may lead to flooding as well as significant impacts.

Scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers are expected on Friday, while isolated showers and thundershowers will occur in the east on Saturday.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Thursday:

A. orange level 6 warning 🌧️ disruptive rain leading flooding of roads, bridges and settlements, damage to property and infrastructure and danger to life is expected over Gauteng, eastern parts of North West, extreme north-eastern parts of Free State and the western Bushveld in Limpopo.

B. yellow level 2 warning 🌧️ disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of susceptible bridges, roads and settlements, damage to property and infrastructure is expected over the central and parts of the North West and northern and eastern parts of Free State and over the Lowveld and eastern Highveld in Mpumalanga.

C. yellow level 2 warning ⛈️ severe thunderstorms leading to damage to infrastructure and localised flooding of susceptible areas, roads, bridges are expected over the western and central parts of the Northern Cape.

Warnings D & E below are no longer included in the updated map from SAWS.

D. yellow level 4 warning 🌧️ disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads, bridges and settlements, damage to property and infrastructure and danger to life is expected along the coast of KZN in the morning.

E. yellow level 1 warning 💨 damaging winds resulting in difficulty in navigation, dragging anchor and small vessels taking on water is expected between Algoa Bay and Coffee Bay.

Regional forecasts from SAWS for Thursday:

1. GAUTENG
Morning fog in places in the morning, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.
The UVB index: Moderate

2. MPUMALANGA
Morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

3. LIMPOPO
Morning fog patch over the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

4. NORTH WEST
Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers.

5. FREE STATE
Partly cloudy to cloudy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Morning and evening foggy conditions along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers but cloudy and widespread in the east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-westerly.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Fine in places in the southern parts in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in places in the northern, eastern and south-eastern parts. It will be very hot in places in the interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly along the south coast, becoming light and variable in the evening, otherwise light to moderate westerly to north-westerly becoming moderate
southerly to south-westerly along the west coast.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated to scattered showers thundershowers except along the coast and its adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly, but light to moderate north-easterly west of St Francis, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with scattered showers and rain south of the escarpment, clearing from the interior, becoming partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers along and north of escarpment. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, reaching strong in places.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but cloudy in the north-eastern parts. The wind along coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly becoming north-easterly from the south tomorrow late morning and spreading northwards.
