A dominant high-pressure system will result in fine and warm to hot conditions over the north-eastern provinces from Wednesday until at least Tuesday next week, but it will be cool to cold in the rest of the country with possible snowfall this weekend. South-westerly swells with wave heights between four and six meters is expected between Lambert's Bay and Plettenberg Bay on Saturday, spreading to Alexander Bay by Saturday evening and persisting into Sunday. Waves reaching seven meters can be expected between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay on Saturday. Along with the high waves, north-westerly winds (50-65 km/h, gusting 75 km/h) can be expected between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas on Friday night, spreading to Plettenberg Bay on Saturday morning while becoming westerly to south-westerly. Winds will moderate from Saturday night. The strong winds and high wave heights will result in rough and choppy seas. Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Wednesday: Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central parts of the Northern Cape, the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality in the North West, Laingsburg and Beaufort-West Local Municipalities in the Western Cape, as well as Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape. Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Friday: level 2 warning for damaging waves off the Western Cape and Northern Cape coasts, as per the map below. THE NORTHERN CAPE Morning fog along the coast where it will be cloudy, otherwise fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy in the south by the afternoon, where it will be windy. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly in the morning, otherwise light and variable. THE WESTERN CAPE Cloudy and cold with light rain over the extreme south-western parts, otherwise fine and cool, but warm in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the west, otherwise fresh to strong north-westerly, but moderate along the south coast. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Cloudy with fog in places in the morning, otherwise fine and cool, but warm in places. The wind along the coast will be light northerly at first, otherwise light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh to strong easterly east of Algoa Bay in the afternoon. It will become moderate to fresh south-westerly west of Cape St Francis in the evening, spreading east. THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE Cloudy with fog in places in the morning, otherwise fine and cool. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly at first, otherwise light to moderate north-easterly, reaching fresh to strong in the afternoon. KWAZULU-NATAL Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming light to moderate easterly to north-easterly from the south by late morning, spreading northwards.
