MONDAY WEATHER: A thunderstorm warning for six provinces in the east but very hot in the west and a high fire danger

Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered thundershowers possible over the central and eastern parts of the country on Monday, and morning fog patches are likely in places.
A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places over Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi and northern parts of Alfred Nzo Districts Municipalities of the Eastern Cape until Wednesday.
It should be extremely hot in places over the Beaufort West and Prince Albert Local Municipalities in the Western Cape.
From Tuesday there is a chance of some very welcome rainfall along the south coast, and from Wednesday it becomes a 60% chance of scattered showers.
Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Monday:
UPDATE: level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail over the central and western parts of KwaZulu-Natal (not indicated on the map yet).
A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges and damage to infrastructure and settlements is expected in places over Gauteng, the Highveld and Escarpment of Mpumalanga, the southern-western parts of Limpopo as well as the eastern parts of the North West and Free State.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over vast parts of the Northern Cape, and in places over Free State as well as Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality in the North West and Beaufort West Local Municipality in the Western Cape.

GAUTENG
Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the extreme north, with scattered showers and thundershowers.
MPUMALANGA
Morning fog along the escarpment and western Lowveld, otherwise cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated over the Lowveld where it will be hot.
LIMPOPO
Morning fog along the southern escarpment, otherwise cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated over the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley. It will become partly cloudy in the south-west by afternoon.
NORTH-WEST
Fine, becoming partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the extreme east. No rainfall expected in the extreme south-west.
THE FREE STATE
Fine, becoming partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the east.
THE NORTHERN CAPE
Cloudy along the coast in the morning where it will be warm, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy over the eastern and northern parts in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, reaching strong in the evening.
THE WESTERN CAPE
Morning fog over the southern and western parts where it will be cool in places, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot over the Central Karoo. It will be cloudy along the south coast with isolated showers and rain. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.
THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy in places in the south at first, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers in the north. It will warm in places along the coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly.
THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with morning fog south of the escarpment, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.
KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise fine and hot to very hot. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-west. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly, becoming fresh north of Durban in the afternoon.
