Level 4 warning issued for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday

Partly cloudy and cool, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers expected over the central and eastern parts of the country according to the SA Weather Service.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Wednesday:

A. yellow level 4 warning severe thunderstorms with a large amount of small hail and heavy downpours over parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, resulting in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure.

B. yellow level 2 warning severe thunderstorms over parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West, resulting in heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding, damage to infrastructure, settlements and vehicles. Parts of the Northern Cape were added to this warning on Wednesday.

Regional forecasts from SAWS for Wednesday:

1. GAUTENG
Morning fog patches in the south, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north where it will be warm.
The expected UVB sunburn index: High

2. MPUMALANGA
Cloudy and cool but warm over the Lowveld with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated over the northern escarpment and Lowveld.

3. LIMPOPO
Cloudy in the south and central where isolated showers and thundershowers can be expected, otherwise partly cloudy and warm.

4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE
Morning fog patches in the south, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but cloudy with scattered in the extreme east.

5. FREE STATE
Morning fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but cloudy with scattered in the extreme east.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Morning fog patches in the south-east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but fine in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south easterly, becoming strong over the northern parts in the afternoon.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Fine and hot in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm. It will become fine over the eastern interior from the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, but light and variable along the south coast in the morning, where it will become moderate south-easterly in the afternoon.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy with light morning rain in places along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly, becoming southerly to south-westerly in the afternoon.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with rain in places along the coast and adjacent interior and over the eastern interior. Isolated showers and thundershowers can be expected in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming southerly to south-westerly in the afternoon.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning and evening fog in places, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly, becoming south-easterly from the afternoon.
