SATURDAY WEATHER: A LEVEL 5 warning for severe thunderstorms and warnings for disruptive rain & damaging wind

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

Note that there are two impact warning maps above.

A. level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours and with a possibility of damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, leading to injuries and danger to life, as well as flooding and motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads and/reduced visibility over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape and the extreme western parts of the Free State.

B. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours and with a possibility of damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, leading to localised flooding over the western parts of the Free State, extreme western parts of the North West, and the central parts of the Northern Cape.

C. level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall resulting in localised flooding of settlements, roads and low-lying bridges, localised disruptions to power supply and communications as well as minor motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads and/reduced visibility along KwaZulu-Natal coast in the morning.

D. level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to settlements, localised interruption to power and communications and difficult driving conditions over Northern Cape except in the south-east, the western and northern parts of the Western Cape as well as the western parts of the North West.

Extremely high fire danger is expected over the western Bushveld in Limpopo.

GAUTENG
Cloudy and cool, becoming partly cloudy from the afternoon. It will be warm in the extreme north.

MPUMALANGA
Cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain in the east, becoming partly cloudy in the west in the afternoon.

LIMPOPO
Partly cloudy to cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain in the east.

NORTH-WEST
Cloudy, windy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers over the west.

THE FREE STATE
Cloudy, windy and cool, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and the western parts.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Cloudy, windy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers except in the extreme western parts where it be partly and cold in places. The wind along the coast will be strong to near gale south-easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Fine over the south-western parts, otherwise cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly but strong along the south-west coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with isolated to scattered showers and rain except along the coast and adjacent interior where it will be partly cloudy in places. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming light in the afternoon.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and rain, but thundershowers in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain but scattered along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the south at first, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.
