MONDAY WEATHER: Widespread rain in the Eastern Cape and warnings for wind, waves & thunderstorms

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places over the Mpumalanga Highveld, the southern parts of the Mpumalanga Lowveld as well as the south-western Bushveld of Limpopo.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over most part of KwaZulu-Natal, except along the south coast and adjacent interior, resulting in localised damage to infrastructure and settlements, localised flooding of susceptible roads and bridges.

B. level 2 warning for damaging interior winds over eastern parts of Free State, the western and eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, resulting in localised damage to settlements, difficulty in navigation and localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes until Tuesday morning. The eastern part of the Free State has also been added to this warning, as per the map.

C. level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline resulting in localised disruption of beachfront activities, small harbours and/or ports for a short period of time until Tuesday morning.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over northern KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern parts of both Free State and North West, northern parts of Gauteng and the central and south-western parts of Limpopo.

Partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the extreme south. It will be hot in places in the north.

Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south as well as in the Lowveld, where it will be very hot. It will be windy over the Highveld.

Fine and hot to very hot but extremely hot in places in the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley. It will become partly cloudy in the south-west.

Cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain in the morning over the central and eastern interior but scattered along the eastern parts of the south coast. Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places over the northern parts with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly becoming moderate to fresh in the south from the morning spreading to the north during the day reaching strong in places.
