TUESDAY WEATHER: A cut-off low and scattered thunderstorms in the south-west – warning for damaging waves

A cut-off low-pressure system is expected to influence the central and western interior of South Africa from Tuesday into Wednesday. As the system develops over the interior, it is expected to result in windy conditions, accompanied by isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers across several provinces.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service from Tuesday:

A. level 2 warning for damaging coastal wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.

GAUTENG
Partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain.

MPUMALANGA
Morning fog patches over the escapement and places in the Lowveld, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain except the extreme south-eastern parts.

LIMPOPO
Morning fog patches over the northern interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain.

NORTH-WEST
Partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

THE FREE STATE
Partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the western parts.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the central and southeastern parts. It will be cold in the southern interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-westerly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme west, but scattered in the central and eastern parts. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly to easterly, reaching gale force along the south-west coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy in the northern parts, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south and west. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly, becoming fresh to strong from late morning.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers south of the escarpment. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate to fresh south-easterly from late morning.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning and evening fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain in the east. It will become cloudy in the southern interior in the evening. The wind along the coast will be light northerly to north-westerly in the north in the early morning, otherwise moderate southerly to south-easterly.
