TUESDAY WEATHER: A severe thunderstorm warning for four provinces and widespread rainfall for the Eastern Cape

Mostly warm to hot conditions can be expected over the country on Tuesday but cool in the south with isolated to widespread showers and thundershowers possible.

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over the eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal and over the interior of Eastern Cape.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Tuesday:

A. level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying areas/bridges, excessive lightning, strong damaging winds and large amounts of small hail and/or large hail over the central parts of Northern Cape, extreme north-eastern parts of Western Cape, and Eastern Cape except along the coast.

B. level 1 warning for damaging winds leading to localised damage to settlements (formal and informal) and localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes due to cross winds on exposed high level roads/bridges over the central southern parts of Northern Cape and north-eastern parts of Western Cape.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central parts of Northern Cape, north-eastern parts of the Western Cape and north-western parts of Eastern Cape.

GAUTENG
Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the extreme north with isolated thundershowers and showers, becoming cloudy in the evening.

MPUMALANGA
Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, becoming cloudy in the evening. Morning drizzle is expected along the escarpment.

LIMPOPO
Partly cloudy and warm but hot in places, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme south and east. Morning drizzle is expected along the escarpment.

NORTH-WEST
Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

THE FREE STATE
Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the western and southern parts.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy, windy and hot to very hot, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except in the extreme west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the north-east. It will become cloudy with light rain and showers along the south-west coast from the evening. It will be windy in the north-east in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and hot to very hot but warm in places along the coast, with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and hot to very hot but warm in places along the coast, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers expect in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.
