SUNDAY WEATHER: Warnings for wind & waves with heavy rain, hail and lightning expected due to cut-off low

A cut-off low pressure system developing west of the country is expected to affect the Western and Northern Cape provinces from Sunday into Monday.

The public and small stock farmers are advised of intermittent showers and thundershowers, accompanied by heavy downpours at times with possible large amounts of small hail and lightning, a significant drop in temperatures over the high-lying areas, windy coastal and interior conditions as well as very rough seas (reaching 4-4.5m south of Table Bay).

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for damaging wind resulting in localised damage to formal and informal settlements as well as localised damage to temporary structures over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape and western parts of the North West.

B. level 1 warning for damaging wind and waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea and small vessels at risk of capsizing between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.

Fine and warm.

MPUMALANGA
Morning fog patches over the eastern parts, otherwise fine and warm.

LIMPOPO
Morning fog patches in the south-eastern parts, otherwise fine and warm but hot in places in the Western Bushveld.

NORTH-WEST
Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

THE FREE STATE
Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-west.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the central parts and western parts where it will be cloudy and cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate northerly to north-westerly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Warm in places over the West Coast District, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate northerly along the west and south-west coast but fresh to strong easterly along the south coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Warm in places in the north-east, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly, becoming fresh to strong north-easterly from the afternoon.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Morning fog and light rain in places south of the escarpment otherwise, cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, reaching strong in places from the afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning and evening fog patches over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy to cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain and showers in the south where it will be cloudy. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly, reaching fresh at times.
