THURSDAY WEATHER: Very cold with icy roads in places and a warning for damaging wind in the west

From Thursday it should be fine and warm in places in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain in the extreme east but drizzle along the north-eastern escarpment.

Very cold conditions and icy/slippery roads are expected in places over Emalahleni, Sakhisizwe, Senqu, Elundini and Matatiele local municipalities of the Eastern Cape.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 2 warning for damaging winds leading to localised damage to temporary structures and localised reduced visibility due to dust storms are expected over the northern parts of the West Coast district, and the Witzenberg Local Municipality of the Western Cape as well as the Namakwa District of the Northern Cape.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Nama-Khoi and Hantam local municipalities of the Northern Cape, as well as Matzikama and Cederberg local municipalities of the Western Cape.

Evening fog along the coast, otherwise fine and cool to warm in the west, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and cool to cold in the east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to north easterly becoming light to moderate north westerly from the afternoon.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Fine and cool to warm but partly cloudy in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly becoming light to moderate north-westerly along the west coast from the afternoon.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fog in places in the south, otherwise fine and cool but cold in the extreme northern interior. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly, but moderate to fresh west of Oyster Bay.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy in places over the interior with morning fog, otherwise fine and cool to cold, but very cold along the Drakensberg and adjacent areas. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, freshening from the south in the afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to cold but very cold in places in the west with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly in the north becoming moderate north-easterly by late afternoon from the south.
