FRIDAY WEATHER: Cold, wet and windy in places with a warning for the Eastern Cape and possible snow

Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the southern parts of the Namakwa District in the Northern Cape and well as over the Witzenberg Municipality in the Western Cape on Friday.

A light dusting of snowfall is possible on the high peaks in the south-western part of the Western Cape from late Thursday night and into Friday.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service:

A. level 1 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to informal and formal settlements, falling trees as well as power and communication interruptions is expected in places over the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

GAUTENG
Fine and cool.

MPUMALANGA
Fine and cool but warm in the Lowveld and the escarpment areas.

LIMPOPO
Morning fog patches in the west, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

NORTH WEST
Partly cloudy in the east at first with morning fog patches, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

THE FREE STATE
Partly cloudy and cool but cold along the Lesotho border.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool but cold to very cold in the south with a chance of rain in the south and south-west in the morning. The wind along the coast will be light south-westerly to westerly in the morning, otherwise moderate southerly to south-easterly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Cloudy to partly cloudy and cold with scattered showers and rain in the extreme south-west, otherwise isolated in the south-west and along the south coast until early afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to north-westerly but strong south of Cape Point, becoming westerly to south-westerly from the afternoon.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy, windy and cool with isolated showers and rain, but scattered along the coast west of Gqeberha where it will be cold. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly early morning, otherwise fresh to strong south-westerly

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy, windy and cold to cool, becoming cloudy in places south of the escarpment in the afternoon. A chance of light rain is expected along the Wild Coast in the evening. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly early morning, otherwise fresh to strong south-westerly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy from the south from late morning with isolated late evening showers and rain in the south-east. Evening fog patches are expected over the southern interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-westerly, reaching fresh in the north, becoming moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly in the south from the afternoon, spreading northwards in the evening.
