Damaging wave and wind warnings along the coast on Friday and very cold in the Eastern Cape

Very cold conditions are expected in places over the Eastern Cape interior on Friday, according to the SA Weather Service.

Partly cloudy conditions are expected over the eastern parts of the country, with isolated showers along the east coast of KZN on Saturday.

Some warnings from the SA Weather Service for Friday:

A. level 2 warning for damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea and small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay, subsiding from Friday evening.

B. level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves resulting in localised disruptions to harbours/ports with small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality between Plettenberg Bay and Kosi Bay.

C. level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to settlements (formal and informal) and some transport routes and travel services along the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal south of Richards Bay in the morning.

Regional forecasts from the SA Weather Service for Friday:

1. GAUTENG
Fine and cool.
The expected UVB sunburn index: High

2. MPUMALANGA
Fine and cool but cold in places on the Highveld and escarpment. It will become cloudy in the east by the evening.

3. LIMPOPO
Fine and cool but warm in places in the Limpopo Valley and western Bushveld. It will become cloudy in the east by the evening.

4. NORTH WEST
Fine, windy and cool to cold.

5. FREE STATE
Fine, windy and cold.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Morning frost is possible over the western interior, otherwise fine, windy and cool to cold. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Cloudy along the south coast and adjacent interior until early afternoon, otherwise fine and cold, but cool in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly to westerly along the south coast becoming moderate easterly in the afternoon, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cold with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong westerly.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers along the coast. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Cool along the coast and in the extreme north-east with morning fog in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cold with isolated morning showers and rain except in the north. It will become fine in places from late morning. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, reaching strong to gale at times.
