Snowvember! Late-season snowfall possible on Thursday
27 November 2024
By Staff Writer
With the temperature dropping as low as 3°C in Sutherland on Wednesday, it's not surprising that very light snowfall is possible for the Eastern Cape and Lesotho on Thursday this week.
In the
Eastern Cape the high-peaks near Rhodes, including Naude's Nek Pass and Tiffindell Ski Resort (closed) may get a very light dusting of snow.
In
Lesotho light snow is currently indicated for the peaks around Sani Pass, as well as in the more remote south-west as per the map.
We last saw snow on the radar in November in 2021 and in 2023, and we've seen two snowfalls in November this year already.
Because the freezing level is very high and the snowfall indicated is so light, it is quite likely that it may melt before it becomes visible.
Note that this forecast may still change. It may reduce or vanish completely in some areas, or the timing may change.
The map indicates where we are seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast.
