Snow expected for the Western Cape and Sutherland5 July 2021 [updated 9 July]By Staff Writer
Snow is very likely on Thursday and during the early hours of Friday as the freezing level drops again, but no snow is expected to fall on the weekend. More snow is however looking likely for next week and this is covered in a separate forecast. In the Western Cape this includes the high-peaks around the Winelands, the Koue Bokkeveld and the Cederberg, Ceres, Worcester, Tulbagh, Robertson, Montagu, as well as on the Swartberg range and on the border of the Eastern Cape around Willowmore, Uniondale and Storms River. The high ground around Sutherland and Calvinia in the Northern Cape is also currently in the snow zone, although this is likely to be lighter than in the Western Cape. The snow is expected to be light at elevations as low as 1600m, but as much as 19cm may fall on the high peaks. According to the data there is only a small chance of light low-level snow that is accessible by normal vehicles in some areas. If you do encounter snow, please respect private property and especially farm fences. Farming is challenging enough without having to deal with damage from people chasing snow. The map indicates where SnowReportSA is seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. Conditions may still change but the data related to this snowfall has been very stable for the last few days.
