Update: Snow has fallen in the Western Cape as forecast. We've posted some photos over the last few days and it's clearly visible now that the clouds have cleared.

Upwards of 10cm of snow is currently indicated for the highest peaks in the Western Cape, as the freezing level starts to drop from the early hours of Monday morning.

Snow is likely to fall periodically between Monday and Thursday, with Tuesday looking like it will be the peak day. As the snow is not expected below 2100m at this point [updated], NO low-level snow that is accessible by normal vehicles is likely.

It is important to note that even small changes to the freezing level will impact on which peaks get snow and how low down it will be visible. The freezing level is likely to be lower on Monday and Wednesday.

As there is a significant amount of rainfall expected, this could melt the lower-level snow quickly, especially if the freezing level fluctuates over this period.

The snow previously indicated as possible for the rest of the country this week is no longer looking likely.

The map indicates where SnowReportSA is seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map.

Conditions may still change and we will post updates if they do.
