Snow falls on Lootsberg Pass, at Matroosberg and on the Swartberg peaks

Snow fell in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape overnight as per our latest forecast, which is available here.

It started snowing on the Lootsberg Pass on the N9 in the Eastern Cape between Middelburg and Graaff-Reinet in the early hours of Friday morning.

On Friday morning a dusting of snow was visible on the Hex River mountains from Matroosberg Reserve outside Ceres in the Western Cape, as well as on the Swartberg range between Ladismith and De Rust where it seemed to be a bit heavier than expected.

We also received a report of snow falling outside Sutherland in the Northern Cape during the night, but it didn't settle on the ground.

This is now the fourth snowfall of 2025 in Southern Africa. In 2024 we put out our first snow forecast of the season on the 6th of April.

NO low-level snow is expected on normal public roads in South Africa this weekend.
