![]() Snow Report Southern Africa reaches a half million facebook followers18 May 2026By The Editor
Snow Report Southern Africa’s facebook page quietly crossed the half million followers milestone last week. Snow Report Southern Africa, now also co-branded as Weather Report Southern Africa, remains one of a small number of independently run widely influential news services in the region. Since adding daily general weather updates in late 2024, the highly popular service has extended its following to capture a sizable chunk of the general weather news market. As the channel crossed the half a million follower mark, our facebook traffic itself reached an enormous 260 million impressions reaching over twelve million people for the year and cementing its role as a major player in the news sector. While no match for our facebook following, the service’s 50 000+ Instagram following, 31 000+ X following and 42 000+ Tiktok following also dwarfs many other news publishers social media connection to their viewers. Combined with our almost 89 000 user whatsapp channel (almost triple the size of the next largest player in the weather sector) put us amongst the most influential publishers in the Southern Africa region. Based on significant feedback from a loyal user base our reliability, clear, and accurate communication of both snow and general weather information is a primary reason for the strength of the channel despite significant competition in the weather news sector. Despite only generating small revenue relative to our size, the team prioritises maintaining relationships with our regular contributors and spends a significant amount of time ensuring that the family-friendly content we post is appropriate and helpful to our audience. While we are a commercial entity we always prioritise our responsibility as an large and influential communicator – as followers will know from our role during the September 2024 snow disaster. See the facebook post on the school bus trapped in snow on the R74. We will always put communicating information that helps to prevent, prepare or deal with difficult situations over coverage of them. We will continue to highlight weather, dams and water, fire and of course snow and are always trying to improve how we communicate with our audience even with the limited resources available to us. We hope that the carefully selected advertisers that we promote via our busy website and whatsapp channel bring value to our audience, and we will continue to reject the kind of advertising that we feel is harmful to our audience. We will never take money to push questionable agendas and narratives. Thank you for your support. The very small Snow Report team Follow our channels
