Snow is expected for some of high-ground in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, and across many parts of Lesotho this weekend.

Low-level snow at a level reachable by ordinary vehicle is a possibility in some areas, but at higher elevations since the freezing level is not expected to drop down very low.

The peaks around Clarens and Fouriesburg and the Malutis may see a light dusting of snow. See our recent feature article on Fouriesburg here.

In the Eastern Cape, a little over 10cm of snow is possible on the high mountain passes near Tiffindell Ski Resort (currently closed) and the Barkly Pass area. The high ground near regions like Hogsback, Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda, Cradock and Dordrecht might get a light dusting of snow or flurries.

Some snow is also possible at higher elevations between Maclear in the Eastern Cape and Kokstad in KwaZulu-Natal, and between Kokstad and Underberg.

Snowfalls are also possible at higher elevations in the Southern Drakensberg, and on Sani Pass. See our recent feature article on the pass here.

In the Western Cape a light dusting of snow is possible on the Swartberg range near Ladismith, Oudtshoorn and De Rust.

The map indicates where SnowReportSA is seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast.
