The first snowfall of 2024 is possible this weekend3 April 2024 [updated 6 April]By Staff Writer
Snowfall is possible for the high-ground in Lesotho and parts of South Africa this weekend. Up to 10cm of snowfall is possible on the highest peaks, as per our map, but is more likely on the Drakensberg in the east of Lesotho. The snow is currently indicated to fall between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. NO very low-level snow is expected at this stage, but with it could be visible from KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday or Monday if it doesn't melt before the weather clears. The data has been up and down over the last few days as far as the quantity and coverage goes so this forecast may not result in settling snow. Various non-snow related weather warnings have also been issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS). The forecast for the rest of the country and the warnings can be viewed here. The map indicates where we are seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast.
