Light snowfall is possible for parts of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, the Free State, North West and Lesotho by Friday this week.

No more snow is indicated for the Western Cape peaks in this forecast.

In the Northern Cape the high ground around Noupoort is on the radar for possible light snowfall.

In the Eastern Cape, more snow is indicated for the high ground around Molteno, Sterkspruit and the high passes on the Lesotho border.

Light snowfall or flurries are possible in parts of the Free State as per the map, including the high ground near Zastron, Reddersburg, Thaba Phatshwa, Clocolan, Ficksburg and west of Bethlehem. Around 10cm of snow is indicated for a small area as marked on the map in purple.

In North West light snowfall is indicated south of Lichtenburg.

Low-level snow is not indicated for KwaZulu-Natal, and any snow is currently only likely on the peaks of the Drakensberg and Maluti mountains.

In Lesotho more light snowfall is indicated for much of the higher ground including between Afriski and Sani Pass, Semonkong, Roma and the south-east region. Maseru might also get a light dusting or flurries.

If you are planning to travel through areas that may get snow it is worth being prepared by reading our article on safe winter travel.

The map indicates where we are seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast. Snow indicated may reduce or vanish completely in some areas, or the dates and times may change.
