This
forecast covers: Sat 18 Oct – Tue 21 Oct
Snowfall is indicated for Lesotho and the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg between late Saturday evening and Tuesday, as well as in parts of the Eastern Cape.
In
Lesotho snowfall is indicated for much of the higher ground including between Afriski and Sani Pass, Semonkong and the South African border in the south-west.
Slightly over 15cm of snowfall is currently indicated at higher elevations in the east of Lesotho over the period, as marked in purple on the map, but as it is spread out over a few days it will not accummulate to that level.
The freezing level should be at its lowest in the afternoon on
Sunday and
Monday.
Lighter snowfall is possible in Lesotho from late in the evening from Saturday, through Sunday, Monday, and early on Tuesday as marked on the map in white.
Sani Pass is currently indicated for possible snowfall higher up on the pass, but no very low-level snow is expected.
Snowfall might come down a bit lower in the
Southern Drakensberg as indicated on the map, and should be visible from places like Underberg and Himeville if the clouds clear before it melts.
In the
Eastern Cape a light dusting of snow is possible on the high-ground around Rhodes on Sunday. This snowfall is less likely than the Lesotho and Drakensberg snow though.
While snowfall for this region is not unusual in October, this forecast may change. Updates will be posted on the weekend.
The map indicates where we are seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast. Snow indicated may reduce or vanish completely in some areas, or the dates and times may change.
